New Club Searches for Members
By Joseph Pompeo
Starting a club at La Roche may be a long process, but one student is passionate about the club he is starting.
The club is called, The Young Democratic Socialist of America.
Chae Swierkosz started the club. So far, they have 11 members.
They will start their first meeting next semester. The meetings will be in Bold Union once a week.
Chae wants to wait until their club is an official organization.
Chae said, “There is already a Democratic Socialist of America that is across America. It was something that I was interested in since probably seventh grade.”
Chae and his old friend, DevonCook, decided to make their passion into a club.
Chae said, “He is sadly no longer part of the club, but I have a goal to make it a full organization at La Roche University.”
Most clubs start with a goal in mind.
Chae said, “I want to destigmatize the word socialism because I feel like policies that are socialist would help the American populace for health care, education, and all of that stuff.”
America is divided between Republicans and Democrats.
This is no problem for this club.
Chae said, “Republicans are welcomed, definitely, because the two could educate each other on any position. If there were a republican club at the school, then I would totally join it.”
If you want to start a club you will have to talk to the Director of Student Development, David Day.
Next, you will receive a list of requirements for the club.
Chae said, “It was a pretty easy process.”
